The after-dinner walk, and the after-dinner cup
If we could sell one thing with every pouch, it would be a ten-minute walk. We cannot, so we will write about it instead.
01 The evidence is unusually clear
Light walking after a meal lowers the rise in blood sugar that follows eating, in people with and without diabetes. The effect shows up with as little as ten minutes and is strongest when the walk starts within an hour of finishing. It also helps digestion and, for many people, sleep.
02 Pair it with the cup
The practical problem with the after-dinner walk is remembering it. A cup of tea is a cue. Put the kettle on, step out while it steeps, and come back to a cup that is ready. Five minutes of steeping, five of walking, and the habit has a shape.
03 Keep it small
Ten minutes around the block is enough. Treat it like brushing your teeth: not a workout, just something that happens after dinner.
