What 'FSSAI licensed' actually means (and what it doesn't)
Every pack we sell carries a 14-digit number. Here is what that number does and does not tell you.
01 Who issues it
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India licenses every food business, from a tea stall to a factory. Small businesses get a registration; larger ones a state or central licence. The number encodes the type, the state and the year. You can type any number into the FSSAI website and see the business behind it.
02 What it covers
A licence means the premises were inspected, the business declared what it makes, and it has agreed to follow the standards for hygiene, labelling and permitted ingredients. Renewals require continued compliance, and inspectors can visit.
03 What it does not cover
A licence is not a quality grade and not an endorsement of any claim on the front of the pack. Two licensed teas can be very different products. That is why we also publish batch lab reports: a licence says we are allowed to sell; the reports say what is in the pouch.
04 How to check ours
Our number is on every pouch and in the footer of this site. Search it on foscos.fssai.gov.in and the listing should match the name and address on the pack. If it ever does not, write to us.
